Peggy Olson, the rise of women in american business world

Yesterday I watched the last episode of Mad Men. Since last night, I've been thinking in Peggy Olson, one of the female characters played by actress Elisabeth Moss. In my opinion, she represents the rise of women in the american business world, a world dominated by men. She rises from just a secretary to a thinking head.

In this season, she gets to buy an appartment with her boyfriend, a man who gets paid worse than she is. At this point of the drama, she is one of the most important creatives in the company and rules a team of creatives, mostly men.

This rise has also been showed by her fashion style. She's now far more stylish than she was in the beggining of the drama, when she worked as Don Draper's secretary. Below these lines you can see some photos that show this change (clic on to enlarge):

Flower Power

A little bunch of flowers can turn a table in a special table. Let's see a couple of examples I found on the net and I pin on my pinterest board tagged "home". I'm sorry I didn't keep the url of the blog where this beautiful photos are uploaded. I'll try to figure something out to get the url! My apologies.

Flowerpower your life!

I do like ebooks

M made me a very nice present last week. He gave me a kindle e-book. It's been a while since I started thinking I would like to have one of this electronic books. At first, I thought that I would rather prefer books than e-books, but little by litlle I began to understand the advantages of this new kind of reading:

- I'm able to read books I never immagined I could read because of their weight
- I'm getting more curious with reading because I can start reading the work of an author I've been curious on reading about, but I couldn't buy or get
- It's easier to download an epub than going to the public library because the incompatibility of its timetable with my full time schedule.

So I'm in love with my new present. The first book I read on this new gadget was one written by Albert Espinosa. It was so easy to read that I started and finished it on the same day! Now I'm reading "El misterio de la cripta embrujada", by Eduardo Mendoza, a well-known spanish writer and have already downloaded... A Song of Ice and Fire (3): A Storm of Swords. I can't wait to start reading it!

Looking for the easter egg

It's been two weeks since we started our business english class. Other four collegues and I are attending these lessons to improve our knowledge of the language in order to provide a better service to our company's customers.

Today we have talked about the bank holidays we enjoyed last weekend. As I told in another post, I went to London with M to visit L and sightsee the city. It was really cold, but as amazing as I had imagined before going. We visit different street markets (Borough Market, Brick Lane second hand Market, Spitafield's Market...), the British Museum, the National Gallery, Soho, Chinatown, St. Paul's Cathedral, The TATE Modern, Greenwich... from there, we got a wonderful view of the city.

We also ate a lot! English food...  but not only. Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Thai... everything was incredibly good. Fortunately we walked soooo many miles we could get rid of the calories!

That was the fourth time I visited this overwheelming city, but I can't get tired of it, so I'm sure I'll be back.

Where's the limit?

Today I’ve been watching several videos on the internet about motivation and sport as the better way to get a healthy life. The first video I've watched is the one I'm posting just below these lines. Josef Arjam is a spanish guy who gave up his job in the financial sector to be a happier person. A friend of Josef gave him a very useful advice. It was the 8-8-8: 8  hours for work, 8 hours to rest and 8 hours for yourself (it includes socializing, sport, leisure, etc). Nowadays, he's the sponsor of a well-known brand.
Thanks to this video I'm going to try being more constant with my training. Always searching for happiness! Come on!

All women talk

Today I've found out a new blog/website where women can get a lot of information, tricks and advices about many different items, such as lifestyle, cooking, travel, beauty and so on.

This website is: allwomenstalk.com.

The thing I like the most is the graphic way it uses to bring you the content. It is very attractive and makes me wanna read every post.

I wanted to post it here, just in case I forget the url. Done! :)

Mum's BDay

Today I'm going to talk again about a present. Next tuesday is my mother's bday, so today, right after work, I'm going to look her a nice gift. She have been telling me about this jacket with these bright pieces over the shoulders she really likes, so I'll try to find her this awesome jacket. Will see!

Talking about this special gift... last week I thought that it would be very nice to surprise my mum with an excursion to see the snow, so on sunday we're going a little bit up to the north of Valencia, to spend the day. I'm very happy because I really wanted it too! I'll post a few snowy photos :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sightseeing in London with our sunglasses

This sunday is M's birthday. I have been thinking for days what present he would like. I use to go more for experiential presents, such as a concert or plane ticket, but this time I prefer something different, something he really doesn't expect. So finally, after lots of thoughts, I have decided to give him a Rayban sunglasses. The classic ones. Like my sunglasses. Same model (Wayfarer), same color (black).

So today, just after work, I'm going to gather up the present! And we have already thought about our anniversary that is coming in April! That's one of the best moments to travel, so we have already  bought our tickets to London. Nice city to walk with our pair of sunglasses, isn't it?!

London! Here we go!

Healthy challenge

Two days ago, a friend of mine challenged me with an interesting idea. She proposed me to take a photo of my  meals during a week. That idea came from a new diet I've just started, following my doctor advice, because I've got the cholesterol level a little bit high.

So, from today on, I'm going to take a picture of my dishes just to show my friend and whoever reaches this blog what is my diet composed of.

I let you see a proof:

2013 Resolution

I've just decided that I want to try writing next posts in English, just to keep in touch with this language that I've not studied anymore since I passed my FCE exam last june. I'm not happy at all with don't studying English, but I need to be realistic: I have no time left to follow scheduled classes, as I used to do during last year. That's why I have this strong resolution of writing in English about daily things or thoughts. I know that I'm going to make a lot of mistakes, but I really don't mind. If you don't make mistakes, you don't get any better!

As bloggers use to say... Thanks for reading!
